  • You must use dipped headlights during the day
  • It's compulsory for motorcyclists and their passenger to wear crash helmets
  • While motorists are legally required to, bikers don'thave to carry warning triangles.
 
 
  • In built-up areas give way to traffic coming from the right "priorité a droite", unless a white line across junction to the right.
  • At signed roundabouts with the words "Vous n'avez pas la priorité" or "Cédez le passage" traffic on the roundabout has priority; where no such sign exists, traffic entering the roundabout has priority.
  • In built up areas the use of the horn is prohibited except in cases of immediate danger.
  • The maximum level of alcohol allowed in the bloodstream is 0.05 per cent or 50mg per ml (UK is 80mg per ml).
 
 
  • Built up area - 50kph
  • Single carriageway - 90 kph ( 80kph if wet)
  • Dual carriageway - 110 kph (100kph if wet)
  • Motorway - 130 kph (110 kph if wet)
  • Motorway minimum speed 80 kph
  • On the spot fines are severe and you may have your UK driving licence confiscated by the Police (e.g. exceeding speed limit by 40+ kph)
 
 
  • you are not allowed to ride a motorbike on a provisional licence.
 
  • As of 3 January 2012, satnavs and similar devices which warn of speed cameras have been banned. If caught using one, you face a fine of €1500.
  • From 1 July 2012, all bikers will need to carry two single use breathalysers which must be NF marked. Fines have been delayed indefinitely.
  • All motorcyclists are required to wear helmets fitted with reflective material with a minimum of 18cm2.
